We’re thrilled to share with you our newest project, Dancing My Mother's Body™ Miami. This program was created in partnership with the Center for Human Rights and Justice, Barry University and Arianna’s Center. Funding provided by Ware Foundation.

In March 2019, Tiffany Madera worked with women of Miami’s transgender community to offer healing through movement. Dancing My Mother's Body™ is a rigorous exploration of identity, the body and the ever evolving relationship of mother and daughter, through the lens, vocabulary and metaphors provided by bellydance. Hanan pioneers new approaches to the creative process while recoding and reframing the possibilities inherent in the genre.

Through the use of dramaturgy and personal narrative, in addition to examining philosophies of identity construction, healing and activism, Hanan brings participants into a deeply personal conversation with their own bodies as dancers, women and daughters. Hanan explores bellydance as a metaphor of mothering, nurturing and connection to the individual and universal womb. In this workshop intensive, participants will engage different neurological, intellectual and emotional processes. This is achieved through a series of intense physical, vocal, reading and writing activities, as well as time for personal reflection and integration. The result will be an interdisciplinary embodiment and kinesthetic output incorporating the human voice, and body in the service of a centered and empowered heart.

Many thanks to the participants who graciously agreed to be filmed as part of this documentary.
