Shimmy Shift Pivot 2021Making Space for Challenging Conversations These turbulent times have widened the chasms between people, creating misunderstandings and resulting in collective reactions such as cancel culture. This fall, Hanan Arts aims to remind us of our commonalities and the importance of keeping the dialogue open.
Shimmy Shift Pivot is a thought provoking webinar and workshop series that engages leaders in the arts and academia to tackle divisive issues such as race, colonization, identity and gender violence as they are experienced through the lens of dance. It is an interactive, safe space for uncensored honest dialogue that builds community through deeper understanding. Artfully facilitated by scholar- artist and Hanan Arts Founder, Tiffany Madera, these conversations aim to tackle the issues of our day with a new vernacular/framework that expands our vision, empathy, connection and creativity. Through the Shimmy Shift Pivot program, Hanan Arts engages participants’ minds and bodies to support healing and to create community. The topics unearthed in the webinars shape part two of the series; the workshops facilitated by Tiffany Madera in historic Miami neighborhoods. These community workshops engage participant’s different learning styles through writing, discussion, movement, music, breathwork, and dance. Together, the webinar series creates semantic memory and the workshop creates embodied memory so that participants make the internal shifts needed to impact the external world. Join us virtually every Wednesday in September from 1:00-2:00 PM EST.
