Artist Spotlight: Tachea

One of the incredible gifts that come from growing the Hanan Arts Community is that we get to meet and work with some of the most inspiring and uplifting people alive on the planet. The loving embrace of “hanan” is part of our core identity, and the organization continues to connect and attract artists who want to share that tenderness.

The Artist Spotlight feature is one way we celebrate all of the artists that have come into contact with Hanan Arts. We continue our Artist Spotlight with Tachea. She participated in the 2018 Havana Habibi Festival, where we got to know and love her as part of our belly dance community.

Tachea trained in Martial Arts as a child, and continued her movement studies as a young adult with Ballet, Modern and African Dance. She rounded out her arts training with Music, Voice and Theater Studies, which lead to the development of her incredible musicality and storytelling in performance. A lifelong lover of learning, Tachea is currently studying The Delsarte System of Expression with Joe Williams.

She began bellydancing over a decade ago, and continues to perfect her craft through various workshops with master instructors. She has had the privilege of studying with the late Serena Wilson, Kelley McKinnon, Dorit, Blanca, Ayana Amin, Jaida, Aszmara, Tamalyn Dallal, Yael Becker, Altagracia and Zenaide, among others.

Tachea has traveled throughout Egypt, Morocco and Zanzibar, and performed in New York City venues like Parkside Lounge, Jebon, Lafayette Grill, Café Figaro, K-Lounge, Tagine, Bazaar Bistro, The Grisly Pear, McGee’s, Mexicali Live (Teaneck NJ); and showcases/events like Queens Fashion Week, Rakkasah East and Spring Caravan (Somerset NJ), Olive Arabic Nights (Las Vegas, NV) and Havana Habibi (Havana, Cuba).

Tachea shared with us recently that she has been studying Moroccan and Algerian dance with Esraa Warda since they met at Havana Habibi. Also, she has begun taking private doumbek lessons, aiming for greater fluency in movement, voice and now percussion to aid her work in healing, both for self and others.
