Intern Spotlight: Juliana Bastos de Mello

Hanan Arts is fortunate to have Juliana assisting us as an intern with various projects this past Summer! “Where are they now?” is one of the projects we will be sharing with you in the coming weeks, you will also see her work in our social media as well. With so much to be done, a small non-profit arts organization like Hanan Arts can’t express our gratitude for having this brilliant young woman help us over the past few weeks.

Juliana is a King Scholar at Dartmouth College, where she studies sociology and gender studies. During her undergraduate studies Juliana has had the opportunity to study abroad in Spain and in Cuba, at the University of Havana. The latter being a huge contributor in her growing interest in exploring the nuances and intersections between artistic performance and social justice. She has previously explored these points of convergence through film and visual arts and is excited to engage with belly dance under such lenses. Beyond art, Juliana’s academic interests include Latin American studies, poverty alleviation, feminism and human rights.
