July 2020

Dear Hanan Arts Family,

Now that summer is in full force we have an opportunity to shift into a new season and perspective. The pandemic continues and strengthens. Our world shimmies and yearns for new ways to connect and heal our many divides. We are seeing the worlds of business, legislation and culture galvanize to make a more inclusive and equitable society. Movement, no matter how small, is always a promise for what is possible.

Today we pivot with courage to look within. How do we make friends with our suffering? How do we allow for joy in times of uncertainty? How do we hold space for others while sustaining ourselves? What role does art, beauty, dance and activism hold in our daily life? What can we learn and unlearn, to bring more peace into our lives and spheres of influence?

This month we’ll seek to answer some of those questions while raising others. We’ve brought together incredible dancers, artists and global thinkers to inspire new ways of seeing, moving and creating. While the sun is out, let’s share a kind word and shimmy, shift, pivot.

In solidarity,

Looking back, looking forward.

We look forward to when we can all be together again for dialogue and exchange. Here’s a look back to the Havana Habibi Festival 2018 documentary screening at O Cinema in Wynwood, FL.
