Dance Workshops: Women Making Worlds Through Movement
Each workshop is open to all levels - dancers with any experience are welcome! We will explore the fundamentals of movement and technique, improvisation, and choreography.
1 PM - 2:30 PM - Valerick Molinary; Global South + Caribbean perspectives in Raqs Sharqi (90 minutes)
Join us as we explore the intersections of movement, music and culture. Learn original steps, rhythms and layers of technique that will deepen your creative expression and knowledge of Raqs Sharqi. Valerick Molinary is a masterful teacher whose classes are both inspiring and demanding. Her deep understanding of global south + Caribbean perspectives in dance will open up new pathways in your practice.
3 PM - 4:30 PM - Niurca Marquez - The Art + Science of Duende (90 minutes)
Join us to explore the depths of creative freedom and expression through floorwork. Niurca Marquez will guide you through various techniques, rhythms and exercises that will open up new possibilities for embodiment and power movement. With roots in Flamenco and contemporary Caribbean dance, Niurca’s class will explore the energetic and physical potential of movement that comes from deep within. This class will be both inspiring and demanding, giving students an opportunity to discover their own potential through the exploration of Global South + Caribbean perspectives in dance.
Participants are encouraged to bring a favorite piece of music or poem.
