Hanan Arts will be in NYC this November to celebrate the official selection of our documentary film, Havana Habibi, as part of the African Diaspora International Film Festival (ADIFF) NYC 2019!

The ADIFF was created in November, 1993 by the husband and wife team of Reinaldo Barroso-Spech & Diarah N’Daw-Spech on the belief that education is power. The Festival offers “a unique platform for conveying African Diaspora artistic styles and craft in film” and serves as a “bridge between diverse communities looking for works that cannot be found in other festivals and talented and visionary filmmakers and works that are part of Africa and the African Diaspora.” (nyadiff.org)

Produced by Tiffany Madera and Joshua Bee Alafia Havana Habibi looks at the cross cultural exchange and inter-migration between Africa, Cuba, and the USA, as well as what it means to be a Cuban Belly-dancer in Revolutionary Cuba and the Diaspora. The film has been well received at various film festivals and screened as part of important conversations around the diasporic theme.

If you are in New York, we hope that you will join us for this exciting milestone. We owe much to our community of sisters, dancers, musicians, and artists. Without their love and guidance, this film would never have been made.
