New Workshop Announced for Sept 2018!
Miami and Havana intensives offered for a small group, culminating in a performance. Beledi dance technique and YOU.
Created in 2012 by dance scholar, artist and filmmaker Tiffany “Hanan” Madera, Dancing My Mother's Body is a rigorous exploration of identity, the body and the ever evolving relationship of mother and daughter, through the lens, vocabulary and metaphors provided in bellydance. Blending philosophy, theatre, dance and performance studies, Hanan pioneers new approaches to the creative process while recoding and reframing the possibilities inherent in the genre.
With the creation of original dramaturgy and personal narrative, in addition to examining philosophies of identity construction, healing, social justice and performance activism, Hanan brings participants into a deeply personal conversation with their own bodies and artistic trajectories as dancers, women and daughters.
Dancing my Mother’s Body is a workshop and international video project. In the workshop and performance, Hanan explores bellydance as a metaphor of mothering, nurturing and connection to the individual and universal womb. Workshops result in multi- disciplinary performances incorporating video, the voice and text in contemporary bellydance monologues. Hanan teaches this trademarked and research based workshop around the world. She is the Founder and Director of Hanan Arts, and creator of the Havana Habibi documentary film and Festival.
